Big strides are being made as we move closer to bringing sustainable, community-led energy to the Gitga’at Nation! Here’s the latest on our journey to clean power:
CEPA Negotiations Have Begun
We’ve officially kicked off the Community Energy Purchase Agreement (CEPA) negotiations with BC Hydro along with the help of our CORP team — a major step forward! The team is working hard to align the project’s energy output with community needs. These discussions are laying the foundation for long-term, reliable, and locally-driven power generation.
Construction Planning in Full Swing
Target Completion: Late 2026 – Early 2027
Our proposed construction schedule is set, and momentum is building! We’re aiming to have the project completed and delivering power by late 2026 or early 2027 — a milestone that’s now firmly in sight.
DENT Construction On Board
We’re excited to be working with DENT Construction as our selected construction partner. Their proven experience and capacity make them a strong fit for bringing this project to life.
Upper Lake Access Underway
Heli-logging along the Upper Lake perimeter , where the stored water will encroach on the land, is being planned.
Permits & Approvals
Sand & Gravel Quarry Application Submitted
We’ve applied for a permit to develop a local sand and gravel quarry, which will provide key materials for construction while reducing transport needs and environmental impact. We are planning to use these materials in other community projects, providing yet another legacy benefit to Hartley Bay.
Amended Road Licence Received
Great news — our amended road licence has been approved! This gives us the green light to improve and expand access routes essential for construction and long-term maintenance.
Environmental Leadership Strengthened
We’re thrilled to welcome Luke Halpin, RPBio, to the team! Luke will lead GOLD’s environmental input to ensure the highest standards are maintained for the project’s environmental management. His expertise ensures that every step forward is taken with care, compliance, and deep respect for the land and surrounding ecosystems.
What’s Next?
From CEPA negotiations to construction planning, permitting, and environmental leadership — this project is full steam ahead! We're building momentum toward a future powered by clean energy, rooted in Gitga’at values and led by the community.
Stay tuned for more updates as we power forward together!
